Award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has stirred controversy with a cryptic social media post advising his colleagues to “do better” in the new year. The now-deleted Instagram story, posted on December 30, 2024, appeared to throw shade at unnamed industry peers, sparking heated debates online.

In his post, Burna Boy wrote:
“If you ever lied about buying Sujimoto’s house in Banana when you actually rented it, do better in 2025. If you ever lied about Elele’s house being yours, do better in 2025. If you have an aftermarket ‘rainbow Daytona,’ please stop telling people it’s real. Do better in 2025. It should be a criminal offense to tell as many lies as certain men. The list can go on and on.”

The message, which ended with a celebratory New Year’s effect, quickly gained traction online, with fans and critics speculating about its target. Many interpreted it as a jab at fellow superstar Davido, igniting a wave of reactions from social media users.

Twitter and Instagram exploded with comments, many accusing Burna Boy of unnecessary rivalry and obsession with Davido.

@Achiwoto commented: “This brainless boy should leave Davido alone. Davido is not your mate. He is driving 25 Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. You had him saying his Cyber Truck was arriving, and you rushed to buy one just to make noise.”

@Lummystylez added: “I don’t know what to call this—obsession, jealousy, clout, or hypocrisy.”

@Itsadeyemi questioned: “It baffles me when you wake up in the morning, and Davido is the first person on your mind. How does that even work? Crazy!”

Burna Boy and Davido have a history of public spats, often fueling conversations about their supposed rivalry. While Burna Boy has remained silent following the backlash, fans are divided, with some praising his boldness and others criticizing him for airing grievances publicly.

As Burna Boy’s post continues to trend, fans are eager to see if the singer will address the reactions or maintain his silence. Regardless, this latest drama has cemented his position as one of Nigeria’s most talked-about entertainers.
