Nigerian soldiers have apprehended three notorious terrorist kingpins during operations in the North-West and North Central regions. These arrests, part of heightened military efforts, come as the Armed Forces intensify security measures to protect citizens during the festive season.

The arrested individuals include Hamisu Sale, also known as “Master,” Abubakar Muhammad, and Bako Wurgi, a key ally of the infamous Bello Turji. Wurgi, who was reportedly involved in the murder of a Sokoto monarch, succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the operation. Before his death, he provided critical intelligence aiding military operations.

According to Major General Buba Edward, Director of Media Operations at Defence Headquarters, the arrested terror leaders are offering invaluable insights into the network and operations of terrorist groups in the region. He emphasized that the military is fully prepared to neutralize threats and ensure a secure Yuletide for all Nigerians.

Speaking on the success of the operations, Edward disclosed that troops have intensified their efforts to dismantle terror leadership across all theaters of operations. Over the past week, the military neutralized 212 terrorists, arrested 272 suspects, and rescued 152 kidnapped victims. Additionally, soldiers apprehended 45 individuals involved in oil theft, effectively preventing an estimated N1.19 billion in losses.

A wide range of arms and ammunition were recovered during the operations, including 110 AK-47 rifles, 247 assorted rounds of ammunition, RPGs, pistols, and other dangerous weapons. These seizures further cripple the capabilities of terrorist groups and other criminal elements.

Edward reiterated the military’s commitment to maintaining heightened security during the Yuletide season, assuring Nigerians that robust operations are underway to thwart any potential threats. “Troops are on high alert and have increased readiness to protect the country from further terrorist aggression, particularly during the festive period,” he stated.
