The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring thugs to invade and take over its party secretariat in Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area.

The PDP further alleged that the thugs that carried out the attack were acting on the instructions of Rep. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, who recently left the party for the APC.

The incident which occurred on Thursday, saw the PDP secretariat reportedly repainted in APC colours, sparking outrage within the party and drawing accusations of political provocation.

In a statement signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Ebenezer Okorodudu, the PDP criticized the act as a desperate and disgraceful attempt by Rep. Ibori-Suenu to appropriate the party’s structures and assets following her recent defection to the APC.

“This provocative and unlawful act reflects poorly on Rep. Ibori-Suenu’s motives for defection. It is clear that her move to the APC was poorly planned, driven by personal ambition, and devoid of any genuine political ideology.

“Rather than building her own identity, she has resorted to hijacking the PDP’s established infrastructure to bolster her position in the APC,” the statement read.

The PDP described the incident as an affront to democratic principles, warning that it will not tolerate the undermining of its integrity or reputation.

The party however, urged its members to remain calm and peaceful, assuring them that legal action will be pursued to address the issue.

“As a party committed to peace and the rule of law, we call on all members to remain law-abiding while we explore appropriate legal remedies. We urge our supporters not to respond to this provocation with violence or disorder,” the statement added.

The PDP also called on Rep. Ibori-Suenu and her APC collaborators to build their own political identity rather than attempting to ride on the PDP’s credibility and legacy.

“If they truly believe in the APC’s vision, they should strive to create their own structures rather than appropriating the PDP’s hard-earned reputation,” the party said.

The PDP further called on security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure justice is served to prevent further political mischief in the state.
