The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area in Delta State, Friday Ovoke Warri, has suspended the traditional ruler of Olomoro community, Joseph Isaiah Isike Edekere I. The suspension, which has sent shockwaves through the community, stems from allegations of gross misconduct, disrespect for government authorities, and inciting crises within his domain.
In an official letter titled “Withdrawal of Recognition as the Odio-Logbo of Olomoro Kingdom” and personally signed by the council chairman, Joseph Isike was sternly warned against parading himself as the Odio-Logbo of the kingdom. The letter, marked “Our Ref: C.16/28/Vol.111/59,” cited a litany of grievances against the monarch, including high-handed leadership and actions detrimental to the unity of the Olomoro community.
The letter stated:
“This withdrawal is necessitated by your actions of lack of respect for government, instituting confusion and crisis in Olomoro community, and high-handedness in leadership without due consideration for the effects on the people of Olomoro Kingdom.

“You are hereby requested not to parade yourself as the Odio-Logbo of Olomoro Kingdom anywhere and are barred from attending the Traditional Rulers Council meetings in the local government area and the state. Non-compliance with this notice will attract dire consequences.”
The Olomoro community has been plagued by a series of crises, with many attributing the unrest to the suspended monarch and other leaders allegedly attempting to unseat the newly elected President-General of the community, Lucky Ewhe Ejoor. Despite these efforts, Ejoor has garnered widespread support from community leaders, youths, and women, positioning himself as a unifying figure in the troubled region.
The suspension of a traditional ruler is a rare and significant development, highlighting the tension between traditional authorities and local government officials. Observers are keenly watching how this unfolding drama will impact the already fragile peace in Olomoro.
