The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has pledged to adopt an inclusive leadership approach to enhance collaboration within the Nigerian Army and bolster its effectiveness in addressing the nation’s complex security challenges.
This commitment was made during his first official engagement with Principal Staff Officers at Army Headquarters on Monday, December 9, 2024. The announcement was relayed by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, following Oluyede’s formal assumption of office as the 24th Chief of Army Staff.
In his remarks, Oluyede commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering support during the transition period, particularly in the wake of the passing of his predecessor, the late Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. He paid tribute to Lagbaja’s legacy, recognizing his dedication and service to the nation.

The new Army Chief stressed the urgency of adopting innovative strategies to counter Nigeria’s evolving security threats. He urged commanders to think outside the box and implement creative tactics to combat terrorism, insurgency, and other forms of insecurity plaguing volatile regions of the country.
Reflecting on his recent visit to the Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI in the Northeast, Oluyede emphasized his commitment to improving soldier morale and providing essential resources to ensure operational success. He highlighted the dynamic and fluid nature of Nigeria’s security landscape, calling for adaptive and forward-thinking solutions.
“The Nigerian Army is acutely aware of the rapidly evolving security environment. Commanders must craft innovative approaches to eradicate terrorism and insurgency in conflict-prone areas,” Oluyede stated.
