The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has successfully rescued six victims from two separate road traffic accidents involving container trucks in Lagos State. The FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, confirmed the incidents in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja through the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Commending the bravery and professionalism of the FRSC Rescue and Emergency Response team, Mohammed highlighted their swift and effective actions in saving lives.

The first crash occurred at 10:50 a.m. on the Apapa-Wharf Highway, near Flour Mill, approximately six kilometers from Mile 2. The collision, caused by brake failure, involved two commercial vehicles: a red Mack truck and a green Mack truck.

According to the FRSC crash investigation report, four individuals, all males, were involved. One suffered injuries, including cuts and bruises, while the other three escaped unharmed.

The second crash happened on the Euro 65-Signal Barracks route at Mile 2 Oke. This incident involved a Toyota Corolla saloon car (LSD293HJ) and a 40-foot container truck. The container truck overturned, landing on the saloon car with two occupants inside. Remarkably, both victims were rescued alive thanks to the proactive efforts of the FRSC team.

Following these incidents, the Corps Marshal urged fleet operators to prioritize the proper training of their drivers. He emphasized the importance of adhering to minimum safety standards and educating drivers on the principles of modern road safety.

“These crashes serve as a stark reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and maintenance of vehicles to prevent avoidable road traffic accidents,” Mohammed stated.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer roads across the country and called on road users to uphold safety regulations for the benefit of all.
