The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspects linked to an illegal gun-running syndicate. The arrests, made by the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), also led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspects—Adamu Noma, Matthew Audu, Andrew Poyi, Aminu Sani, and Aminu Talha—were apprehended on November 18, 2024. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks supplying illegal arms across Nigeria’s borders.
During the arrests, police operatives uncovered a haul that included 10 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, five Israeli AK-47 rifles, one revolver pistol, one pump-action rifle, 20 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and a welding machine believed to be used for weapon fabrication.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their swift action, describing the operation as a testament to the police’s commitment to tackling insecurity and curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms. He reiterated his directive to all tactical units to intensify efforts to seize illegal arms and dismantle local manufacturers of dangerous weapons.
“This breakthrough, alongside numerous others, shows the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to decimating criminal activities and enhancing national security. We remain steadfast in ensuring that our communities are safe from the threat of illegal arms and their purveyors,” Adejobi stated.
The suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities have vowed to prosecute those involved to the fullest extent of the law.
