The Adamawa State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government to upgrade the Cottage Hospital in Hong and the General Hospital in Mubi to Federal Medical Centers (FMCs).

The historic agreement was formalized in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, with Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta signing on behalf of the state government. The move is in line with Adamawa’s commitment to federal initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery for its citizens.

Deputy Governor Farauta highlighted the strategic benefits of the decision, emphasizing that the transition would bring significant advantages to the people of Adamawa. She expressed optimism about the opportunities the upgraded FMCs would create, including enhanced healthcare services and job prospects for locals.

“We couldn’t say no to this opportunity, given the numerous benefits these conversions will bring to our people,” Farauta said. She urged the Federal Government to prioritize employing Adamawa residents in the newly upgraded facilities, stating, “When these institutions fully take off, we want our people to be considered for employment, as the facilities are situated in Adamawa.”

Farauta also pledged the state’s full support in ensuring the success of the transition, describing the initiative as a vital step toward complementing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure across the state. “We thank the Federal Government for enhancing Adamawa’s healthcare system,” she added.

Representing the Federal Ministry of Health, Permanent Secretary Daju Kachollom, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, praised the collaboration as a milestone in federal healthcare reforms. Kachollom described the agreement as the result of a two-year negotiation process, marking a new era in healthcare delivery for the region.

“This partnership reflects the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to providing quality healthcare services to all Nigerians. It is a significant step toward realizing the full potential of our healthcare sector,” Kachollom stated.

The upgrade of the hospitals is expected to enhance access to top-tier medical services for residents in Hong, Mubi, and beyond. It also signifies the Federal Government’s focus on bridging healthcare gaps in underserved regions, making healthcare more accessible and efficient for millions of Nigerians.
