The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has uncovered a massive warehouse where 50-kilogram bags of federal government rice, emblazoned with the inscription “Not For Sale” and bearing President Bola Tinubu’s image, were being illegally re-bagged for commercial purposes.

The operation, led by the commission’s chairman, Muhuyi Magaji, took place around Kano’s Western Bypass, exposing a syndicate involved in diverting rice meant for public distribution. Initial investigations reveal that the rice, originally intended for distribution during the last Sallah celebration, was diverted and repackaged for sale.

During the raid, the commission uncovered approximately 28 trucks loaded with re-bagged rice, with an estimated market value exceeding ₦1.4 billion. This startling find shows the scale of the operation and the potential impact on the government’s efforts to alleviate food insecurity.

Muhuyi Magaji condemned the illegal activity, calling it a betrayal of government initiatives aimed at easing the hardships faced by Nigerians. “It is uncharitable and criminal for individuals to frustrate the government’s efforts to make life better for the suffering population,” he stated.

The Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission has vowed to fully investigate the syndicate responsible for this diversion and urged members of the public to provide any useful information that could aid in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the commission as part of collective efforts to bring to book those responsible for the diversion and misuse of public resources.
