Ebonyi State is set to welcome the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, as she prepares to commission the newly rehabilitated runway at Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Onueke, Ezza South LGA.
During her visit, the First Lady will officially inaugurate the runway, which has been upgraded under Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration to meet international standards. Governor Nwifuru, who took office a year ago, invested over N17.8 billion to revamp the airport’s runway, now the longest in the South-East region.
Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu, Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, confirmed the state’s readiness for the event after a security briefing with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies. “We are fully prepared for the commissioning, which will mark the recommencement of full flight operations at Chuba Okadigbo International Airport,” she said.

The commissioner praised Governor Nwifuru’s dedication to ensuring that the airport meets international standards, making Ebonyi a key destination for air travel in the region.
With full flight operations resuming, the commissioning of the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport runway is expected to boost economic growth and connectivity for Ebonyi and the entire South-East.
