Alex Ikwechegh, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, expressed profound regret over his recent behaviour towards an Uber driver at his residence. A widely circulated video captured Ikwechegh engaging in what he described as “unacceptable behaviour” during an interaction with the driver delivering a waybill. He acknowledged the incident as a lapse in judgement, admitting that his actions fell short of the standards expected of public officials.
“I am deeply sorry for my actions,” Ikwechegh stated, recognizing the disappointment and embarrassment his behaviour has caused to the driver, his constituents, and the Nigerian people. “I understand that my actions were wrong and unbecoming of someone entrusted with public responsibility,” he added.

Ikwechegh affirmed his full cooperation with the Nigerian Police investigation, stating his commitment to accountability. He thanked the police and his party for their prompt response and condemnation of the incident, highlighting a unified commitment to uphold justice and citizens’ rights.
As part of his steps towards personal growth and reform, Ikwechegh revealed plans to seek professional counselling and to engage in community service projects centred on fostering respect, empathy, and understanding. He expressed his dedication to ensuring that such behaviour does not recur.
