The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced that President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate prioritization of essential infrastructure across all districts of Abuja. This comes as part of a larger strategy to modernize the city and improve connectivity.
Wike made this declaration while inaugurating the construction of a 3.2km dual carriageway from Ahmadu Bello Way to Mabushi District in Abuja on Wednesday. The road project also includes several other key networks within Mabushi District, marking the beginning of a city-wide infrastructure overhaul.
Highlighting President Tinubu’s commitment, Wike noted that no new districts will be created in Abuja without first ensuring that high-quality infrastructure is in place. “We will not rest until every district in the capital is connected with well-constructed roads,” he emphasized.
The minister underscored the importance of a well-connected road system in creating a serene and functional environment. “For a city like Abuja, having an extensive and high-quality road network is non-negotiable,” Wike stated, adding that investments in infrastructure will transform the city into a truly modern metropolis.
Wike also pointed out the economic advantages of this project, explaining that better roads will stimulate economic activities across Abuja, easing transportation for residents and businesses alike.

The Federal Executive Council approved the road project, which will be completed by May 2025. Wike assured the contractor, CGC Nig. Ltd., that the government had made sufficient budgetary provisions to avoid any delays.
“Under this administration, no project will be left abandoned. Every contract we award will be completed before our tenure ends,” Wike declared. He also promised that there would be no cost variations or project augmentations, as the government is committed to paying contractors on time.
Shehu Ahmad, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), provided further details on the project, which will link Ahmadu Bello Way to Mabushi District and benefit several neighboring districts, including Katampe, Jahi, and Kado.
“This road network will not only enhance Mabushi’s infrastructure but will also accelerate development in surrounding districts, providing a ripple effect on the city’s growth,” Ahmad said.
