The Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has once again awarded N305 million in scholarships to 26 lecturers from the state’s higher institutions. The scholarships, aimed at supporting postgraduate studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), will enable the recipients to study at top institutions in Malaysia.

This new development, coming just a month after several Borno students received international scholarships, reflects the governor’s ongoing commitment to educational advancement in the state. By investing in these lecturers, Governor Zulum hopes to cultivate a skilled workforce that will contribute to Borno’s future development, especially in STEM fields.

The scholarship presentation ceremony, held at the Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, saw the recipients awarded their cheques. Speaking at the event, Engineer Lawan Abba Wakilbe, the Commissioner for Education, urged the lecturers to act as ambassadors for Borno and return with the knowledge and innovative ideas needed to drive local progress.

“The Zulum administration has made significant investments in education because we believe in the power of knowledge to transform our state. We expect you to return with solutions that can advance Borno’s development,” Wakilbe emphasized.

Dr. Bala Isa, the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, praised the governor for his increased financial commitment to scholarships since taking office. He called on the beneficiaries to excel in their studies abroad and bring back the expertise that will contribute to the state’s growth.

On behalf of the scholarship recipients, Dr. Sadiq Abba Aji expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum, pledging that they would work hard to make the state proud. He noted that the group is eager to apply the knowledge gained in Malaysia to help Borno realize its educational and developmental goals.

This latest round of scholarships underscores the Zulum administration’s focus on STEM education as a key driver for Borno’s future. With international training opportunities, the lecturers are expected to return with cutting-edge skills that will strengthen local institutions and inspire the next generation of learners.
