The Subcommittee Chairman of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) Reconciliation Committee, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has expressed confidence that the party will emerge stronger after its reconciliation efforts, positioning itself to wrestle governance from the PDP-led government in Delta State in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a meeting of APC leaders and members on Thursday at the Mariam Babangida Center, Asaba, the former Minister for Niger Delta Affairs criticized the PDP’s 24 years reign in the state, accusing it of failing to maximize Delta’s resources for the benefit of the majority of its people.
Addressing the press after a closed-door session, Orubebe emphasized that APC nearly took over Delta in 2023 but was hindered by what he termed “minor mistakes.”
He noted that the party is now addressing those issues, adding that the people of Delta are eager for a change in leadership.
He expressed confidence that, with ongoing consensus-building efforts, Delta APC is poised for victory in 2027. Orubebe further explained that the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate had a better vision and plans to transform Delta’s fortunes. With the current reconciliation efforts, which aim to unify aggrieved members and leaders, he is optimistic that the APC will gain power in the next elections.
“The committee is confident we will achieve the desired results,” he said.
“Before commencing this effort, we consulted nearly every APC leader across Delta North, Central, and South, and there’s a collective resolve to work together for the good of the party and the state.”
“We’ve agreed to set aside grievances and work in unity to secure Delta for the APC in 2027. We are very confident about this.”

Elder Godsday Orubebe addressing journalists after the meeting at Asaba Orubebe highlighted the party’s determination to avoid repeating the mistakes of 2023, stressing that all APC leaders have accepted the reality that unity is essential to winning the 2027 elections.
He mentioned ongoing grassroots sensitization efforts, urging party members to forgive past wrongs and work together as a cohesive group.
“We were close in the last election, and it was clear that the people of Delta wanted a change. They wanted the APC to govern because we had better programs and ideas. We are confident that come 2027, we will emerge victorious.”
He drew parallels with the recent events in Edo State, where reconciliation within the APC led to a successful outcome in the party primaries, despite initial divisions. Orubebe praised how leaders in Edo set aside their differences to secure a united victory, adding that Delta APC is following a similar path to ensure success.
“Just like in Edo State, leaders in Delta APC have realized the importance of reconciliation, and we are replicating that. We are confident that, come 2027, we will have an APC governor in Delta State.”
