Ahead of the Ebonyi South Senatorial zone by-election fixed for February 3, 2024, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on a credible election.

The Acting chairman of the party in Ohaozara LGA, Engr. Chinedum Elekwachi made the call during a stakeholders meeting held in INEC office with leaders of political parties and security agencies on Sunday.

Engr. Elekwachi explained that the People’s Democratic Party is a law-abiding political party that believes in the tenets of democracy urging the electoral umpire to hold unto their words of providing a free and fair election

According to him, the party will not tolerate a situation where staff of INEC will say that results sheets are not available and give excuses that uploading of results is not possible because of ‘network glitches ‘

“I want to assure INEC and the security agencies that PDP is ready to cooperate with you people for a peaceful election, already we are talking to our members”

“Overtime INEC has assured us of a free and credible election but we get different results when we get to the field. It is pertinent that INEC should talk to their staff that will be deployed to the field because these people usually compromise the process ”

“We are a law-abiding political party but will not tolerate non-issuance of result sheets and excuses on the uploading of results. They shouldn’t be glitches, all results should be uploaded in real-time.

“The security officers we are going to hold you by your words and please don’t be biased and work for a particular political party. Provide a level playing ground and neutrality so that we can test our popularity, and credibility because we are testing the waters and power belongs to God”.
