Apex Igbo Socio-cultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, has dismissed the Abuja protests against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, saying it was the handiwork of opposition parties in an attempt to distract President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
A statement signed on Thursday by Ohanaeze’s Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, specifically asked the opposition political parties to allow Nyesom Wike to focus on his duties and not politicking.
Ohanaeze stated that the politically sponsored protests in Abuja on Wednesday, 6th December 2023 were mobilized by an opposition Governor and Presidential candidate to score cheap political goals to distract Wike, who is one of the pillars of Tinubu’s administration.

He noted that despite Ikwerre being Igbo, the Ndigbo would protect their own and asked Tinubu to ignore the antics of opposition parties to distract his administration.
According to the statement, Nigerians know that President Tinubu is an experienced leader and father of the Nation. He is confident that Tinubu can catch a glimpse of the opposition’s grandstanding to weaken his administration through childish protests.
Ohanaeze said that “ethno-religious sentiments should not be brought into every facet of our national development! Competence and capacity to deliver infrastructural and economic development in FCT should be the watchword! And there is no doubt that Wike has the track record!”
