Unknown gunmen, on Friday night, allegedly killed two ‘Ebubeagu‘ security operatives at Ebebe junction, Abakaliki capital city, while many others sustained bullet injuries.
The Trumpet gathered that the unknown gunmen stormed the area between 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm with two motorcycles, covered their faces and started shooting sporadically at their targeted victims.
Investigation revealed that the killing of the said victims may be linked to issues of rival cult clashes ravaging some parts of the State.
An eyewitness (name withheld), who spoke to The Trumpet said: “We heard repeated gunshots at Ebebe junction. We do hear gunshots at Ebebe junction, but last night own was different.
“Unknown gunmen had a clash with Ebubeagu security operatives last night.”
“We heard that three persons were shot by the unknown gunmen, but we are sure that one person was confirmed dead on the spot. The killing of the said persons is also linked to rival cult clashes,” the source noted.

Another eyewitness that lives close to Ebebe junction, who also spoke to our Correspondent said: “the unknown gunmen killed two Ebubeagu operatives. The unknown gunmen came with two motorcycles and they covered their faces.
“The unknown gunmen were shooting sporadically and they injured many people, but two persons died on the spot.”
The Security consultant to Ebonyi State government, Mr Stanley Okoro Emegha, who confirmed the incident, broke into tears while speaking with our correspondent in Abakaliki.
According to him: “What do you want me to do now? Can’t you please leave me alone? Leave me alone, please! They killed two of my personnel last night and you are calling to ask me what?”
The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Aliyu Garba who spoke to The Trumpet through the command’s spokesperson, SP, Chris Anyanwu confirmed the incident.
He identified the victims as Igwe Emmanuel, 30 years and Udu Samuel Elekwe, 40 years.
