Ondo Govt set to commence senior citizens registration

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said his administration is set to commence the collation of senior citizen’s data so as to give them adequate care in their old age.

Governor Akeredolu who spoke during the National Day Celebration for senior citizens said the plan was to pay back the elderly for their contributions to the growth of the state.

The programme was organised by the National Senior Citizen Centre, NSCC, and Ondo State Stakeholders’ Consultative Forum on Ageing with the theme “Celebrating the Resilience of the Older Persons: From Resilience to Empowerment”.

Akeredolu who was represented by Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Adebunmi Osadahun, commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for establishing the National Senior Citizens Day

Akeredolu urged the elderly ones to appeal to the younger ones to be of good manners as the general election is fast approaching.

In her welcome address, the co-chairman of the Forum, Mrs Funwa Agbi said the choice of the theme is an indication of the goodness of being alive and well in old age.

She commended the Ondo State Government and the Ministry of Women Affairs for the warm reception and support given.

Also speaking, the National Secretary of the Elderly Person Association of Nigeria, EPAN, Moses Olatunbosun said the forum was founded to take care of the elderly person in society.

Olatunbosun urged the state government to implement the elder person right and privilege bill for the state’s senior citizens.
