The wave of defections from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to sweep across all wards and local governments of Delta state.

Recalled that barely three days ago, a former deputy chairman and one time factional chairman of the party, Cyril Ogodo led other party leaders on a defection move to the PDP, which came less than a week after a similar move by some leaders of the party in Delta North who were received by the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Uka.

Prior to their defection, Mr. Cyril Ogodo and his colleagues were strong loyalists to one of the foundation leaders and 2015 Governorship CandidaTe of the party, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and members of the ‘Emerhor Political family, EPF’.

Although, O’tega Emehor has denied those that left the party, describing them as ‘stomach politicians’.

However, his statement seems not to have deterred other members of the Delta APC, who had remained resolute in leaving the party.

The recent in the defection tsunami sweeping Delta APC is the movement of Henry Aruero, the Youth Leader of the party in Ughelli North local government area, which is the foot hold of APC in Delta State.

Henry Aruero led a large number of other members of the party to the PDP on Thursday, 20th February 2022.

According to Aruero who spoke during the event at Otor-Ogor, Ughelli Ward 2 headquarters, “the APC has done a lot, they have made a lot of promises to the youths, causing disaster everywhere, making brothers to fight each other.

“I was in PDP before and I did not see this kind of things. When PDP make promise they fulfil it but APC will make a promise years will pass by they can’t do it, the next you see is problem everywhere.

“My advise to other members of APC that are out there is to come and join the PDP. Although I have been receiving calls from other APC members telling me that they are coming. So I know many more will join me.

“APC has fallen apart and the center can no longer hold so we have chosen to follow the stable PDP. There is nothing more for us to do than to move to the moving train of the PDP.

“Our defection today is to further continue our aspiration and support to deliver all elective position to the PDP in the forthcoming election.

“We want to thank the elders and leaders of the PDP in Ogor Ward 2 and Ughelli North at large that have contributed massively in making this decision of ours a success.”

Receiving the defectors on behalf of the State Chairman of PDP, Barr. Kingsley Esiso, the party Chairman in Ogor Ward 2, Pastor Uyo Oghenemakpo welcomed them to the party.

He assured them of equal opportunities with other members of the party, charging them to continue to work for the party and urged other members of the opposition party to join the PDP.

Also speaking at the event, the chairman of the organising committee of the event, Mr. Morgan Ogapha commended the bold move of the defectors especially their leader, Henry Aruero.

He promised that the PDP will not discriminate against them, pleading with them to work hard for the continued success of the party at both the ward, local government, state and national level.
