Rotary Club, District 9141, Asaba Zone, Delta State has reinstated its commitment to the development of education as a core mandate of the club.

To this end, the club has embarked on capacity-building training for Basic School teachers in Asaba and environ as part of the activities to mark its Basic Education and Literacy Project.

The President of Rotary Club, GRA Asaba, Rotarian Eru Ezefili, who spoke on behalf of the ten different clubs at the opening ceremony of the two days capacity building training, they put together in collaboration with Universal Learning Solution Initiative, held at Uzoigwe Primary School, Asaba, said it would enhance teachers’ performance in imparting knowledge and learning on their pupils.

She said, “in Rotary we have so many foci in serving humanity and each month is been designated and for the month of September, the area of focus is ‘Basic Education and Literacy’.

Ten clubs in Asaba Zone, the Rotary Club in Asaba GRA in collaboration with nine others, have put together what we call back to school programme.

“One of the aspects of the programme is the donations of educational resources to other schools and the other is capacity building, training the teachers.

“In the past, when we do the capacity training, we focus on government schools but this time we have decided to reach out to teachers in private schools also.

“The training is basically for teachers of Basic School which is from pre-nursery to JSS 3.

“Our area of focus today is what we call, ‘Jolly Pholly Training’ and this training is being done by our consultant, Universal Learning Solution Initiative, who has offered to do the training for free.

“So I will urge you that are here to not just learn and keep the knowledge for yourself but to go back and teach others.”

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Austin Ede Uworo, while declaring the ceremony open, commended the rotary club for the gesture.

He urged the teachers to take advantage of the training to develop their teaching capacity and use the knowledge to impact, not just their pupils, but their fellow teachers.

The club also donated learning materials, including metal boards, markers and others to Oshimili South Nursery and Primary School and Women Affairs Nursery and Primary School, both in Asaba.

The ten clubs are, Rotary Club Asaba GRA, Rotary Club, Asaba, Rotary Club, Asaba Metropolitan, Rotary Club, Asaba Govt-House and Rotary Club, Asaba Gateway.

Others are Rotary Club, Asaba Bluewaters, Rotary Club, Kwale New Dawn, Rotary Club, Asaba Bonsaac, Rotary Club, Asaba Citadel and Rotary Club, and Asaba New Era.
