Nicki Minaj‘s husband Kenneth Petty was sentenced to probation and home detention at a sentencing hearing on Wednesday due to his failure to register as a sex offender in California.

Petty pleaded guilty last year to failing to register as a sex offender.

Petty is ordered to pay a $55,000 fine, in addition to spending three years on probation and a year in home detention. The Trumpet Gathered

“We appreciate and respect the Court’s decision granting the defence request for probation and home confinement,” Petty’s attorneys Michael Goldstein and Hagop Kuyumjian said in a statement.

In June, federal prosecutors initially wanted to sentence Petty to over a year in jail for failing to register as a sex offender, according to court documents.

“Having previously been convicted of attempted rape, defendant knowingly failed to register as a sex offender upon moving to California,” prosecutors said in a June filing.

Petty entered a guilty plea back in September 2021.

They had recommended Petty get 15 months in prison and 5 years of probation, but the judge clearly disagreed with him getting that stiff of a sentence.

Prosecutors inside the U.S. Attorney’s Office had argued home detention wouldn’t be a punishment, because Nicki and Petty live in a luxurious multi-bedroom mansion in a gated Calabasas community.

The 44-year-old was convicted of rape in New York in 1995, but didn’t register within the required period after moving to California in 2019. He has served four years in prison for the 1995 crime.

Petty also served seven years in prison in 2006, after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter.

His name remains on the New York City sex offenders register.

Minaj and Petty got married in 2019, and currently live together in a mansion in Calabasas in Los Angeles County, California.
