Last batch of Oyo pilgrims arrive in Jeddah

Sixty-three pilgrims from Oyo State arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning via a Boeing 747 jumbo jet.

They are the last batch who arrived at about 8. 00 a.m and spent close to two hours before clearing their hand luggage at the airport, according to Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun.

He said they joined other Nigerian pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for this year’s Hajj. This took the total of pilgrims so far airlifted by Oyo State to 655 in four flights.

Olatunbosun added that government functionaries on the flight included the Executive Secretary, Oyo state Primary Health Board, Dr Muhideen Olatunji; as well as Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim wing) members. Alhaji Abdulmajeed Akinwumi and Alhaji Abdrahman Abubakri.

Police investigate acid attack on teenager in Adamawa Charles Suru The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged acid attack on a 17-year-old boy, Walid Kassim Mohammed, in Yola South Local Government Area of the state. The incident reportedly occurred on January 14, 2026, when the victim ran to the Shagari Police Division in distress, alleging that he was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acid while on his way to a mosque in the Shagari area. Police sources said the victim identified the alleged attacker as one Idris Hamza, a resident of the same community. Following the report, the police promptly rushed the teenager to a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. The suspect has since been taken into protective custody. The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case to ensure a thorough and discreet investigation.
