A Microbiologist and one-time Commissioner for Education in Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, has been nominated by the elders of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Rivers State as running mate to Sir Amaopusenibo, Siminilaye Fubara, governorship candidate of the party for the 2023 election.
Odu, who served in the administration of former governor Peter Odili as Commissioner for Education, hails from Bayelsa West Senatorial District, same district as the incumbent deputy governor, Dame Ipalibo Banigo.
The deputy governor nominee is currently a Professor in the Department of Food and Public Health, Microbiology, Pamo University of Medical Sciences, Port Harcourt, owned by Dr Peter Odili. The Trumpet Gathered
Before she was appointed Commissioner for Education in 2006, she served as the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Health. As Permanent Secretary, she led the medical rescue team during the ill-fated Sosoliso plane crash at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

Odu first trained at Paisley College of Technology, Renfrewshire, Scotland where she bagged her first degree in Microbiology in 1979.
In 1983, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Food Science & Management at the University of London, and later a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Port Harcourt.
She was also one time acting Executive Director, University of Port Harcourt Foundation before she ventured into lecturing in the same university.
