Egyptian Mohamed Salah has invariably enjoyed a wonderful 2021-22 campaign with Liverpool having won a cup double despite missing the highly contested Premier League trophy to Manchester City and European Champions League title to Madrid.

Salah, named the FWA Men’s Player of the Year, scored the highest number of goals in the Premier League to win the Golden Boot prize alongside Son Heung-min of Tottenham who also tallied the number.

The talismanic player, who captained the Pharaohs of Egypt to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon where they ended as runner-up after losing on penalties to Senegal, had his goal-bound attempts In the UEFA Champions League final denied by wonderful goalkeeping by Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois.

The result in the final at Stade de France is the second time in four years that Los Blancos have stopped Mohamed Salah and Liverpool from lifting the Champions League trophy.

Mesmerizing the defeat served by Vinicius Junior’s goal in the second half, Salah who was listed among the Premier League Player of the Year award wishes he could exchange all his accolades for a rematch of the UEFA Champions League final with Real Madrid.

More so, the player inarguably has been superb this season, making clinical touches and contributing a whole number of assists to hand Jurgen Klopp’s side to had been a strong contender for the season’s Premier League trophy.

Sequel to the above, his form spurred the club to launch a campaign to end the season with a quadruple but relentless City and an aggressive 14th UEFA Champions League title-contending Madrid ensured they ended at a double.

In a tweet after Salah was listed in the Premier League Player of the Year award, he said, “I cannot express in words how much we wanted to bring that trophy back to Liverpool but in the end, we couldn’t. I cannot thank the fans enough for your support. It has been a very long season but a part of me wishes the next one starts again tomorrow.”

“Being recognised by the fans and by the sports journalists in the same season is something special that I will never forget. I would however give all those personal awards up for a chance at replaying that final, but that is not how football works,” he added.

The Trumpet reports that alongside Liverpool who parade three of their players, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Virgil van Dijk as nominees for the ‘Men’s PFA Players’ Player of The Year award,’ Harry Kane of Tottenham, Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United and Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City also surfaced.
