Gervonta Davis knocked out Rolando Romero in a bout staged in Brooklyn, New York, to retain the lightweight belt.
Romero, who has been all over the space in the buildup to the match, boasting to defeat Davis in the first round, fell in the sixth round after the defending champion threw a deadly left-hand punch.
However, the duel between the fighters could have happened earlier than yesterday night’s but Romero, who was accused of sexual assault, had to clear his name. Following the accusation, Romero was immediately replaced with Isaac Cruz who lost to Davis on a unanimous decision.

Consequently, Romero, after being cleared of his innocence, rooted for a reschedule to challenge the three-time division champion, Davis.
During the fight, Romero showed grit, forcing Davis, who since 2015 had always recorded knockouts before Cruz forced him into a unanimously decided fight, in the fourth round to almost an equally shared performance. Invigorated Davis came all out for Romero in the fifth round and dominated the fight but grimaced later on after he probably hurt his arm.
Davis returned in the sixth and knockout round with more tenacious punches which sent Romero crashing on the canvas. The Trumpet reports that Davis has never lost a fight since he began his professional boxing career. He has a record of 27 wins and 25 knockouts.
