The support groups disclosed their interest in the Mutfwang/Piyo 2027 political project during the inauguration of the APC campaign council on Monday, November 2, at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos.

Mutfwang, who inaugurated the council, said his administration’s achievements and ongoing development projects would form the basis of the party’s campaign to secure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in the state.

He urged campaign officials to conduct a peaceful, disciplined and issue-based campaign focused on performance, grassroots mobilisation and the development of Plateau State.

‘Every Government Is A Relay’

The governor acknowledged the challenges confronting the state but insisted that his administration had made progress that deserved to be sustained through continuity.

Defending the idea of continuity in governance, Mutfwang said no administration can complete every development project within a single tenure, describing governance as a relay in which successive governments should build on the achievements of their predecessors.

“There is no government that ends everything. Every government is a relay. Our duty is not to make others look bad; it is to see how we can collectively make Plateau State look better,” he said.

Forest Guards, IDP Return On Security Agenda

On insecurity, the governor acknowledged persistent security challenges in parts of Plateau State, but announced plans to deploy at least 800 trained forest guards to vulnerable communities.

He also said another batch of retrained “Operation Rainbow” personnel would soon be commissioned as part of efforts to strengthen security and protect residents.

Mutfwang further disclosed that his administration is working to facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons to their ancestral communities, reiterating its commitment to restoring peace across the state.

The governor also defended the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, urging Nigerians to consider the fiscal and structural challenges inherited by the federal government in 2023.

He cited improvements in foreign reserves and fuel availability as evidence of progress under the current administration.

Highlighting his government’s interventions to ease economic hardship in Plateau State, Mutfwang listed the introduction of Tin City Metro buses, the revival of metropolitan rail services, a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees at state-owned tertiary institutions and a 300 per cent increase in student allowances.

He also acknowledged the impact of federal student loan and scholarship programmes on the state’s indigenes pursuing higher education.

The governor urged APC stakeholders to put aside internal disagreements and focus on building a strong grassroots political structure, warning that electoral victories were determined at polling units rather than political gatherings in Jos.
