The controversy centres on INFERNO, a song featuring Peruzzi, Zlatan and Shoday, in which the rapper delivers a crude line that mentions the name Vincent.
The lyric has triggered speculation that Zlatan was taking a shot at VDM, whose real name is Vincent Martins Otse. Although Zlatan has not publicly confirmed that the line was directed at the activist, the reference to Vincent has fuelled discussions about a possible disagreement.
VDM Hits Back
VDM subsequently responded by mocking Zlatan’s album promotion and wedding publicity, questioning whether the song could sustain the number one position on Apple Music for an entire month.
“Wetin go pain me be say if this your song no do number 1 for Apple Music for one month. Person wey do a whole wedding because he won promote him album, album no blow, wedding no blow,” VDM said.
The activist also questioned the engagement generated by posts about Zlatan’s wedding, claiming that none of the blogs that covered the ceremony attracted up to 5,000 comments.
“All the blogs that posted the wedding, no one entered 5k comments. All the PR, Vincent everywhere. If that song no stay No. 1 for one month, e go pain me,” he added.
Nigerians React
The remarks have divided X users, with some accusing VDM of picking unnecessary fights while others believe Zlatan should be prepared for a response if the lyric was indeed directed at the activist.
A user identified as @club95Ceo defended Zlatan’s rise in the music industry, writing, “Zlatan is better, he hustled his way up and we all saw it happen.”
The commenter also accused VDM of targeting people associated with Burna Boy’s rivals and referenced an alleged ₦250 million toilet project award.
Another user, @Ab67197Mu, identified as Muhammed Abdulfattah, accused VDM of seeking attention through celebrity disputes.
“It’s like he’s picking fights with everyone just for clout. Zlatan didn’t do anything to him. You don’t have to drag everybody to make a point. It’s exhausting,” the user wrote.
However, @OOwoicholove, identified as Onelaw Owoicholove, appeared to warn Zlatan against underestimating VDM, suggesting that the activist could respond more forcefully if the disagreement escalated.
“VDM get like 4 musicians oo and unfortunately for you zlatan you can’t dish VDM anything apart from what he used his own mouth talked or show but trust VDM you will shocked when he’s ready for you… VDM Will forget about for noW,” the commenter wrote.

Meanwhile, @EKUN148, identified as Pretty Makavelli, dismissed VDM’s criticism of the song’s chart prospects.
“Oga rest. The song go enter number one normal. But whether it stays there for one week or one day is any less of your business.. you’re just bitter and this is a very weak clapback, Song wey everybody don dey chop?. You must be a joker,” the user wrote.
@OmatablogMedia also criticised VDM, arguing that Zlatan had not directly responded to the activist despite the alleged exchanges.
“This is petty. You have been throwing shades at Zlatan but not for once he has responded. Why not chill. Remember silence is the best answer given to a fool,” the account stated.
Another commenter, @Itz Ethrone, questioned why VDM was directing his criticism at Zlatan, arguing that INFERNO was a Peruzzi song featuring the rapper rather than a solo Zlatan release.
“The song he is talking about is Perizi’s song and not Zlatans, Zlatan was only a featured artist. Plus it’s a song not an album. Why this guy body just de pepper am? The song will drop Tomorrow and it will get to number 1. On God,” the user wrote.
The comments have widened the debate, with fans arguing over whether Zlatan’s lyric was a deliberate diss, whether VDM’s response was justified and whether the rapper should be held responsible for a song on which he is a featured artist.
While the lyric mentioning Vincent has fuelled speculation that VDM was the intended target, Zlatan has not publicly confirmed the interpretation.
Similarly, VDM’s claims about the performance of Zlatan’s album and wedding publicity remain his own assessment.
For now, the exchange has put the two personalities at the centre of a fresh social media storm, with fans trading arguments over the alleged diss and VDM’s pointed response.
