The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the cause of the collapse had yet to be determined as rescue teams worked to establish whether more people were trapped beneath the debris.

According to reports by Channels Television, emergency responders were deployed to the scene to search for victims and evacuate those affected by the incident.

“Emergency responders had launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to locate and evacuate any victims trapped under the collapsed structure,” the agency said.

LASEMA Coordinates Rescue Operation in Fadeyi

LASEMA said it was coordinating the emergency response alongside personnel from the Lagos Response Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Ambulance Service and the Alakara Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

The injured victims were among those affected by the collapse, while rescue teams continued efforts to determine the full extent of the casualties.

Authorities had yet to confirm the identities of the victims or establish whether additional people were trapped beneath the rubble as the operation continued.

Building Collapse Raises Safety Concerns in Lagos

The incident adds to concerns over building collapses in Lagos, where structural failures have repeatedly resulted in deaths, injuries and property damage.

Building collapses can result from several factors, including structural defects, substandard construction materials, unauthorised alterations and inadequate maintenance. However, authorities had not identified the cause of Friday’s incident.

Further details, including the identity of the deceased and the number of people who may still be trapped, were not immediately available.

Updates are expected as emergency responders continue their search-and-rescue operation and authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
