Enugu REC Highlights Electoral Challenges in South-East
Earlier, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu, outlined the scale of electoral operations in the state.
Chukwu said Enugu has 17 local government areas, 260 registration areas and 4,145 polling units, figures that underscore the need for detailed planning and coordination.
He noted that managing elections across the different administrative levels requires adequate personnel, logistics, technology, infrastructure and security, alongside continuous engagement with stakeholders at the grassroots.
According to him, effective election preparation depends on coordination between polling units, registration areas, local government offices and INEC’s zonal and national structures.
He urged commission officials to strengthen operational systems, improve procedures and ensure that every staff member understands their responsibilities ahead of the 2027 elections.
