Nafiu said the Budget Office had been informed of the upward review, although he did not disclose the specific amount of the increase.

The planned adjustment is expected to provide additional support for corps members during the orientation exercise, subject to the commencement of implementation in 2027.

The announcement comes as the NYSC continues to prepare young Nigerian graduates for national service through its orientation programme.

NYSC DG Advises Corps Members on Financial Discipline

During the interaction, Nafiu urged corps members to embrace financial discipline, avoid unnecessary spending and cultivate the habit of saving to prepare for their future.

He also commended Nigerian youths for their resilience and commitment to national service.

The NYSC chief encouraged corps members to look beyond their academic qualifications by acquiring practical and vocational skills that could improve their employment prospects and support their future livelihoods.

He identified cosmetology, traditional hairstyling and other vocational disciplines as examples of skills corps members could develop to improve their chances of earning a living.

NYSC DG Issues Security Advisory to Corps Members

Nafiu also cautioned corps members against travelling after 6 p.m., advising them to suspend their journeys until the following morning where necessary.

He warned them against sleeping in public places or gathering in groups at filling stations while travelling, noting that such practices could expose them to security risks.

The director-general urged corps members who encounter security challenges to seek refuge at military formations, police stations or Department of State Services (DSS) offices.

He also advised them to contact the NYSC emergency hotline when they require assistance.

NYSC Promises Improved Facilities at Obubra Camp

Nafiu pledged to engage relevant stakeholders to improve infrastructure and rehabilitate facilities at the NYSC orientation camp in Obubra.

Earlier, the NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Mrs Adejoke Oyenuga, described the director-general’s visit as evidence of his commitment to the welfare of corps members.

Oyenuga disclosed that 1,064 corps members had registered at the camp, adding that they had successfully adapted to the structured orientation programme.

The interaction provided an opportunity for NYSC leadership to address corps members’ welfare, security, skills development and the conditions at the orientation camp.
