JAMB Warns Against Illegal Admissions
The examination body issued the warning on Monday through its official social media platforms, cautioning candidates against accepting admission offers from institutions without following the approved JAMB admission process.
JAMB said admissions made outside its official framework may not be recognised, warning that candidates who accept such offers could face difficulties with their academic records and other admission-related procedures.
“An admission offered by an institution outside the approved JAMB admission process may not be recognised as valid,” the board said.
It added that accepting an unapproved admission could jeopardise candidates’ academic plans and create complications in the management of their admission records.
JAMB Explains Risks Of Admissions Outside CAPS
The warning was issued as JAMB promoted a new episode of its JAMB Explained series, which examines illegal admissions, their consequences and the steps candidates can take to avoid falling victim to unapproved admission practices.
The board urged prospective students to make admission verification a necessary step before accepting any offer.
“Your admission journey deserves the right foundation. Verify before you accept,” JAMB said.
The examination body stressed that candidates should not rely solely on admission notifications received directly from institutions or through unofficial channels, as such offers may not automatically translate into recognised JAMB admissions.
What Is JAMB CAPS?
The Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is the platform established by JAMB to manage and streamline admissions into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Through CAPS, candidates can check their admission status, view provisional admission offers and indicate whether they accept them. Institutions are also required to process admissions within the framework approved by the board.
The platform enables candidates to confirm whether an admission offer has been properly processed and reflected in their JAMB records.

JAMB 2026 Admission Guidelines On Unapproved Offers
JAMB’s 2026 admission guidelines reinforce the requirement that admissions into tertiary institutions must be processed through the board and reflected on candidates’ JAMB profiles.
According to the guidelines cited in the report, an admission offer without a JAMB admission letter is considered illegal and will not be recognised by the board.
JAMB also stated that candidates who choose to accept admissions outside CAPS would be doing so at their own risk.
The board said it would neither recognise nor condone admissions obtained outside the approved system, making it essential for candidates to verify their offers before taking further steps.
How Candidates Can Verify JAMB Admission
Prospective students are advised to take the following steps before accepting an admission offer:
- Visit the official JAMB portal and access the CAPS platform.
- Check their admission status using the appropriate candidate login details.
- Confirm that the admission offer is reflected on their JAMB profile.
- Follow the approved process to accept or respond to the offer.
- Seek clarification from JAMB or the relevant institution if the admission status is unclear.
Candidates should ensure that their admission is properly recorded on the JAMB platform before proceeding with registration or other admission-related requirements.
