The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched a share-grant initiative targeting up to two million Nigerian women as part of efforts to expand participation in the ongoing initial public offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE.

The offer is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026, with the foundation funding eligible beneficiaries’ share applications through the IPO’s approved issuing structure rather than giving out cash.

Key Highlights

  • Aliko Dangote Foundation launches a share-grant scheme targeting up to two million Nigerian women.
  • The initiative is linked to the ongoing Dangote Refinery IPO.
  • The programme is a share grant, not a cash handout.
  • Low-income women earning ₦100,000 or less monthly can qualify under the matching grant.
  • Eligible women who subscribe for at least 10 shares can receive another 10 shares funded by the foundation.
  • Verified beneficiaries under the unconditional grant can receive an application for 20 shares.
  • The Dangote Refinery IPO is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.

Dangote Foundation Share Grant Targets 2 Million Women

The Women’s Share Subscription Grant Initiative is designed to enable more Nigerian women to acquire an equity stake in the Dangote Refinery through the ongoing IPO.

The foundation said it would fund eligible share applications through the approved issuing process, with beneficiaries not required to make payments to the foundation, agencies or sponsors for the grant itself.

The programme is being implemented in collaboration with Vetiva Capital Management and the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) under the Securities and Exchange Commission-approved IPO framework.

How the Dangote Women’s Share Grant Works

The initiative has two major tracks: a matching grant and an unconditional grant.

Under the matching grant, an eligible Nigerian woman earning ₦100,000 or less per month who subscribes for at least 10 shares can receive an additional 10 shares funded by the Aliko Dangote Foundation in her name.

Reports on the student arm of the wider share-support programme have placed the minimum subscription for 10 shares at approximately ₦5,250.

Under the unconditional grant, verified beneficiaries who complete the required identification and Know Your Customer (KYC) checks can receive an ADF-funded application for 20 shares.

Who Qualifies for the Unconditional Grant?

The unconditional share grant is targeted at verified participants in designated Aliko Dangote Foundation programmes.

These include:

  • CRoWN
  • ADFIN
  • Mu Shuka Iri
  • Verified service widows
  • Eligible non-commissioned servicewomen
  • Eligible service spouses

According to information provided by Dangote Group to The Punch, the servicewomen category includes policewomen and military women.

Applicants must satisfy the requirements for their particular category before they can receive the grant.

Eligibility Requirements for Dangote Share Grant

Applicants must meet several basic requirements to participate in the women’s share-grant programme.

Eligible applicants must be:

  • Nigerian women aged 18 or older;
  • Residents of Nigeria;
  • Eligible under one of the programme’s designated categories; and
  • Able to complete the required identity verification and KYC procedures.

The foundation also states that each woman can receive only one ADF-funded share grant across its schemes.

Dangote Refinery IPO Share Grant Explained

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Dangote Foundation to increase public participation in the ownership of the refinery.

Aliko Dangote first outlined the plan in September, saying the foundation would work with state governments to enable widows, victims of conflict and other vulnerable women to participate in what he described as the refinery’s “People’s IPO.”

The October launch provides specific application channels for the initiative and expands the target beneficiaries beyond widows to include low-income women and eligible service families.

Dangote Foundation Also Plans Student Share Grants

The women’s initiative forms part of a wider share-support programme being developed by the foundation.

According to officials, approximately ₦25 billion of a broader ₦40 billion share-support package has been earmarked for up to five million students.

The student programme follows a similar matching model in which eligible participants purchase 10 shares and receive another 10 shares funded by the foundation.

The women’s programme represents another major component of the foundation’s proposed inclusion strategy.

When Does the Dangote Refinery IPO Close?

The ongoing Dangote Refinery IPO is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.

The foundation’s target of reaching up to two million women will therefore depend on how many eligible applicants complete the required verification and KYC procedures before the deadline.

Demand could also affect how the available grants are allocated if the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available share pool.

Dangote Women’s Share Grant Is Not Cash

The foundation’s initiative is important to distinguish from a conventional cash empowerment programme.

Beneficiaries are not being handed cash.

Instead, the foundation is funding qualifying share applications, giving eligible women an opportunity to acquire a small equity interest in the Dangote Refinery through the IPO.

The refinery has a stated capacity of approximately 700,000 barrels per day, making the share offer a significant development in Nigeria’s capital-market and energy sectors.

The success of the women’s programme will ultimately depend on the number of eligible applicants who complete the process before the IPO closes on October 13.
