Court Orders INEC To Recognise NDC Modified Logo
The Federal High Court in Abuja ordered INEC to approve and upload the modified NDC logo on its official website after the party challenged the commission’s handling of its symbol.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik delivered the judgment on September 8, 2026, in a suit filed by the NDC against INEC.
Reports on the judgment identified the suit as FHC/ABJ/CS/1814/2026. The court held that the modified design adopted by the party at its March 25, 2026, National Executive Committee meeting should be recognised as the party’s official logo.
The court consequently directed INEC to approve, upload and allow the party to use the modified logo for its political activities and elections conducted by the commission.
NDC Logo Features Two-Finger Victory Symbol
The updated NDC symbol displayed on the INEC portal features a two-finger victory sign against a blue background, with the acronym “NDC” written in red.
The design was adopted by the party at its first National Executive Committee meeting on March 25, 2026.
INEC’s official political parties portal now displays the Nigeria Democratic Congress with the updated information and identifies the party as a recognised and certified political party.
NDC Had Challenged INEC Over Party Symbol
The legal dispute followed a disagreement between the political party and the electoral commission over which logo should be officially recognised.
The NDC had alleged that INEC initially uploaded its modified logo but later removed it and restored the symbol associated with the party at the time of its registration.
The party subsequently approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking recognition of the modified design.
The court ultimately ruled in favour of the party’s request and directed INEC to recognise and publish the modified logo.
INEC Portal Now Reflects Court-Ordered Changes
Following the judgment, INEC updated the NDC’s information on its official platform. The commission’s portal currently lists the party’s national leadership and marks the relevant entries as being updated “By Court Order.”
The portal update gives the modified NDC symbol formal visibility within INEC’s electoral information system.
It also provides voters, political parties and other stakeholders with an official reference point for identifying the party and its approved symbol ahead of elections.

NDC Begins Using Modified Logo Ahead Of 2027
Following the court judgment, the party’s leadership directed its candidates and members to use the modified symbol on campaign materials, including banners and other publicity materials.
The development is significant ahead of the 2027 general elections, when party symbols will be used to identify candidates and political parties on electoral materials.
For political parties, consistency in the use of approved symbols can also be important for campaign communication and voter recognition.
NDC Logo Dispute Highlights Role Of INEC Electoral Records
The court dispute also highlights the legal and administrative importance of the information maintained by INEC concerning registered political parties.
With the commission now displaying the modified NDC symbol, the party is expected to continue using the design as part of its campaign identity as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
The development comes as Nigeria’s political parties, aspirants and supporters intensify activities ahead of the next general elections.
The NDC’s updated symbol is therefore set to form part of the visual identity through which the party distinguishes itself from other political organisations during the 2027 electoral cycle.
