The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has warned job seekers against a fake recruitment advert circulating online in the name of the former Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), describing the notice as fraudulent and urging the public not to submit personal information through it.

The warning was issued on Monday in a public notice titled “Fraudulent Recruitment Notice” posted on the NRS official X account. The agency said the advert, titled “Federal Inland Revenue Service – FIRS Job Vacancy – Replacement,” did not originate from the Service.

Key Highlights

  • The NRS says the circulating FIRS vacancy advert is fraudulent and did not come from the agency.
  • The Service says it has not authorised or commenced the recruitment exercise mentioned in the notice.
  • No consultant, agent or third party has been appointed to recruit for the NRS.
  • The advert reportedly asks applicants to submit personal information by email.
  • The NRS has succeeded the former FIRS under the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025.

NRS Disowns Fake FIRS Recruitment Advert

The Nigeria Revenue Service said its attention had been drawn to a recruitment notice circulating on social media and other platforms under the former Federal Inland Revenue Service name.

The notice, headed “Federal Inland Revenue Service – FIRS Job Vacancy – Replacement,” invites members of the public to apply for vacancies. The NRS said it was fraudulent, had not been issued by the Service and should be disregarded.

The Service’s official website provides its verified contact and information channels.

NRS Says It Is Not Recruiting Through Third Parties

The revenue authority said it has not commenced the recruitment exercise referenced in the circulating notice and has not authorised any individual, consultant, agent or organisation to recruit on its behalf.

The NRS urged the public not to submit personal information to contact details provided in the fake advert. Applicants should be careful with CVs, identity documents, bank information and other sensitive details when dealing with unverified email addresses, phone numbers or social media accounts.

FIRS Name Used in Fake Recruitment Notice

The NRS also reminded the public that the Federal Inland Revenue Service has been succeeded by the Nigeria Revenue Service. The transition was established under the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025.

The use of the familiar FIRS name may make the fake vacancy notice appear legitimate to job seekers who are unaware of the institutional change. The NRS advised applicants to verify any future recruitment announcement through the Service’s official communication channels before applying.

What Job Seekers Should Do

The NRS said the advertised exercise has not been authorised or commenced and that no third party has permission to recruit on its behalf. Anyone who has already responded or shared information through the advert should remain alert to follow-up attempts to obtain more personal information or money.

Job seekers should avoid sending sensitive documents, banking details or payments to unverified contacts and should independently confirm future vacancy notices through official NRS channels.
