Political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections has intensified in Taraba State following the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Agbu Kefas for second terms by the Iliya Kefas Alhaji Coalition Movement.

The endorsement was announced on Saturday at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo during a mobilisation rally attended by hundreds of supporters drawn from the 16 Local Government Areas and the two Special Development Areas of the state.

Key Highlights

  • Iliya Kefas Alhaji Coalition Movement endorses Tinubu and Kefas for second terms.
  • The endorsement was announced at a mobilisation rally in Jalingo.
  • Supporters attended the event from Taraba’s 16 Local Government Areas and two Special Development Areas.
  • The coalition cited security, education, agriculture, infrastructure and human capital development.
  • The group called for continuity of the Tinubu and Kefas administrations ahead of the 2027 elections.

For the supporters gathered at the stadium, the event was an opportunity to express their position on the direction they want the country and Taraba State to take as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

Leader of the coalition, Hon. Iliya Kefas Alhaji, said the decision to endorse the two leaders was based on what the group described as achievements and ongoing initiatives in security, education, agriculture, human capital development, infrastructure and economic development.

“We are here to endorse our papa, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Governor Agbu Kefas for their second term in office,” Iliya said.

He commended the Tinubu administration for its efforts to address challenges confronting the country, particularly in the areas of security, infrastructure, agriculture and human capital development.

According to him, continuity would enable the Federal Government to deepen programmes already introduced and give the administration more time to pursue its development agenda.

At the state level, Iliya said Governor Agbu Kefas had demonstrated commitment to improving the welfare of Taraba residents through interventions in education, security, agriculture, infrastructure and other sectors.

He specifically pointed to the state government’s sanitation initiative, claiming that more than 10,000 youths and women had benefited from the programme across Taraba.

Beyond the political endorsement, the rally also provided a platform for supporters to highlight issues they said were central to their expectations from government, including employment, improved public services, infrastructure and economic opportunities.

Mrs Victoria Markus, who spoke at the event, said the coalition’s support for Tinubu was based on its desire for continuity. She also cited what she described as the Kefas administration’s interventions in education, security, agriculture, infrastructure and the economy.

Similarly, Adamu Usman said the endorsement reflected the confidence of coalition members in the continuation of the two administrations. He urged supporters to sustain grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.

The gathering featured solidarity messages and other support activities, with participants drawn from communities across the state.

The endorsement comes amid increased political activity in Taraba as politicians, support groups and other interest organisations position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With political structures gradually taking shape, grassroots mobilisation is expected to remain a feature of political activities in Taraba as the 2027 elections approach.
