Presidency Commends ProTaxi Electric Ride Service
Prince Adetokunbo Ademola Ade-John, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Transportation and Mobility, praised the ProTaxi initiative and its chief executive during the launch.
Ade-John said the project was consistent with the administration’s vision for transportation and mobility, while commending Promiseland Innovation for developing a locally driven solution in the sector.
The commendation came as Nigeria marked its 66th Independence anniversary, with stakeholders attending the Abuja unveiling of the new electric-powered e-hailing service.
Promiseland Says ProTaxi Will Create Economic Opportunities
Ambassador Emmanuel Lawrence Oloche, Chief Executive Officer of Promiseland Innovation, said ProTaxi was designed to go beyond conventional ride-booking services by creating opportunities for drivers and their families.
“Today, we introduce a ProTaxi that is not just another e-hailing application. It is a platform that creates opportunity and changes destiny,” Oloche said.
He said the company’s objective was to provide people with tools and opportunities that could help improve their livelihoods.
According to Oloche, every passenger journey represents an income opportunity for a driver and, by extension, the driver’s household.
He said income generated through the platform could help families meet expenses such as school fees and rent.
ProTaxi Plans 1,000 Electric Vehicles for Abuja Drivers
Promiseland Innovation has said it plans to empower 1,000 Abuja families with brand-new electric vehicles through the ProTaxi initiative.
The company said both men and women who can drive may apply, subject to registration, screening and onboarding requirements.
According to the company, applicants are not required to have previously worked as commercial drivers before joining the programme.
The initiative is being positioned as both an electric mobility project and an income-generation opportunity for participating families.
ProTaxi Targets Expansion Across Nigeria
Gift Emmanuel, Executive Director of Promiseland Estate, said the company intends to take the initiative beyond Abuja.
“He’s here in Abuja now, and we are moving to other states to help other people too,” she said.
Promiseland has identified Abuja as the first market for ProTaxi, with plans to expand to other parts of Nigeria and eventually other African markets.
The company said its broader ambition is to build an African technology platform capable of competing in the global market.
ProTaxi Introduces Electric Mobility to Abuja E-Hailing Market
The ProTaxi electric ride service adds another option to Abuja’s growing e-hailing market, particularly as fuel costs continue to affect drivers and commuters.
The platform will allow passengers to request rides digitally, while participating drivers will operate rechargeable electric vehicles rather than relying solely on petrol-powered cars.
In an interview after the launch, Oloche described the service as an affordable mobility option for Nigerians while also presenting it as a means of helping families generate income.
However, details about the rollout remain limited. Promiseland has not publicly provided a detailed breakdown of how many of the planned 1,000 electric vehicles are already operational or the specific financial and ownership terms under which participating drivers will receive the vehicles.
The company’s planned expansion and the scale of the programme will depend on the implementation of its vehicle deployment, driver onboarding and digital ride-hailing operations. For more updates, follow us on X.
