Police Arrest Suspect After Family Complaint
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, police operatives responded after receiving a complaint from the girl’s family and subsequently arrested Suleiman.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly lured the child before the alleged offence. The allegation has not been established in court, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Child Taken for Medical Examination
Police said the child was taken to a hospital for medical examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not disclosed her identity or further identifying details, to protect her privacy.
Case Transferred to Adamawa SCID
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, Kabir Umar Hassan, ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola.
The case is expected to undergo further investigation before any prosecution is pursued. Police said the investigation would be conducted discreetly and professionally.
Police Warn Against Gender-Based Violence
Hassan condemned gender-based violence and said the command would investigate the allegation. He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious conduct involving children to police.
