The Provost of Ebonyi State College of Nursing Sciences, Uburu, Mrs. Patricia Nwankwagu, has said the institution has recorded significant transformation under her administration, following the attainment of full accreditation for its major nursing programmes and massive infrastructural development.
Nwankwagu stated this in Abakaliki, when the management of the College appeared before the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education.
She disclosed that the College has secured full accreditation for its National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) nursing programmes from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), as well as full accreditation for its nursing and midwifery programmes from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
According to her, the college also emerged as the best institution at the 2025 South-East Nurses Olympiad Quiz Competition and second best nationally.
The provost attributed the achievements to the support of the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, particularly in infrastructure development and the provision of modern health and educational facilities.
She listed some of the projects executed by her administration to include the construction of a storey-building arts classroom block with a 400-capacity hall; a motorized borehole for the staff lodge; an 800-capacity students’ hostel currently under construction; a functional mini ICT hall; expansion of sports facilities; and 20,000-litre overhead water tanks for the hostels.
Other achievements, she said, included the college’s second-place finish at the 2026 South-East Debate Competition, regular matriculation ceremonies and the presentation of certificates to graduating students.
Nwankwagu described Governor Nwifuru as a rare leader whose administration had demonstrated strong political will to transform the state, adding that the impact was evident across various sectors within his three years in office.
She said her administration had deliberately repositioned the college to produce highly competent nurses and midwives capable of meeting the healthcare needs of Ebonyi State and the nation.
The provost also appealed to the House Committee to consider an amendment of the law establishing the institution to bring it in line with current realities and enable the college to effectively fulfil its mandate.

Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Nwodo Aloysius, said the interface is aimed at assessing the operational status of the college, including its achievements and challenges.
Nwodo commended the provost for what he described as her administrative ingenuity, noting the visible development in the institution, particularly its environmental cleanliness and academic discipline.
He said the state government under Governor Nwifuru, has prioritised the health sector because of its critical role in driving socio-economic development.
According to him, the administration’s efforts have resulted in the recruitment of health personnel and massive infrastructural development across health institutions in the state.
