Southern Delta University (SDU), Ozoro in Delta State has recorded a historic milestone with the maiden induction of 344 graduating engineering students into the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
The ceremony was organised in collaboration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
The induction marks a significant step in the university’s commitment to producing professionally grounded engineering graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The ceremony featured distinguished engineering professionals, academics and University official.
In his keynote address, titled: “Beyond Graduation: Navigating the Journey from Graduate Engineer to Professional Engineer,” Prof. Hilary Owamah, challenged the inductees to transform Nigeria’s developmental challenges into opportunities for innovation and indigenous solutions.

He urged them to combine academic knowledge with practical experience, seek mentorship, document their professional achievements and continually build competence, character and capacity.
The ceremony climaxed with the oath-taking by the inductees and the formal induction of the 344 graduates into the NSE.
The maiden induction marks a new chapter for SDU’s engineering graduates as they transition from academic training into the professional world.
