The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Cletus Nwadiogwu has said eight kidnapped victims were rescued, while another another kidnapped victim lost his life in captivity at a forest in 0himini Local Government Area of of the state.
Nwadiogwu disclosed this at a press conference on Friday, in Makurdi, the state Capital.
The commissioner of police said the victims were kidnapped on September 13, 2026, when armed men intercepted their vehicle, along Ankpenchi 0gobia axis, abducting nine persons, while one of the victims died in the kidnappers den.

He said the police upon receiving an alert of the kidnapping incident immediately swung into action and launched a manhunt to rescue the victims.
Advising against night journey by travellers, he said four of the kidnapped victims were rescued on September 13, while the other victims were set free on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The commissioner of police emphasised that efforts are been intensified to ensure the discovery of the corpse of the victim who died in the kidnappers den.
“The operatives of the command attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit, alongside other tactical teams, who stormed the forest through intelligence gathering consequently rescued the victims,” he said.
The police boss said the rescue operation resulted in an exchange of gunfire with the kidnappers during which they were overpowered by the superior firepower of the police.
In a related development, the commissioner of police said police officers attached to 0turkpo Division, during a stop and operation arrested Sunday Oguche with a locally fabricated pistol.
Also, he said the command arrested 17 other suspects accused of attacking police officers who tried to rescue victims of a road crash at Adagi in Kwande Local Government Area of the state..
Parading the 17 suspects in connection with the attack on the police officers, the commissioner of police disclosed that upon the completion of investigation, the suspects would be charged in court.
