Aston Villa secured their first Premier League victory of the 2026/27 campaign on Saturday, surviving a late Tottenham Hotspur fightback to claim a thrilling 3-2 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emiliano Buendía were on target for Villa, while Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke scored late for Tottenham, but the hosts could not complete the comeback.
Villa took the lead deep into first-half stoppage time when Manzambi reacted quickest to put the visitors ahead after a difficult opening 45 minutes for Spurs.
Tottenham thought they had levelled after the break when Mohammed Kudus bundled the ball into the net, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review, with Andy Robertson adjudged to have been offside in the build-up.
Aston Villa capitalised on the reprieve and doubled their advantage in the 67th minute.

Jackson, who had posed a constant threat to the Tottenham defence, created space on the edge of the box before finding the bottom-left corner with a composed finish.
Villa extended their lead again in the 79th minute when Buendía produced another fine effort from distance, curling the ball into the same corner to put the visitors 3-0 ahead.
Tottenham finally found a response eight minutes later as Gallagher converted from close range after Kudus supplied the assist.
Spurs then scored again deep into stoppage time when van Hecke headed home from Robertson’s delivery, setting up a tense finish.
However, Villa held firm during the remaining moments to secure all three points.
The defeat means Tottenham’s difficult start to the season continues, with Spurs still without a victory after their opening five Premier League matches.
The hosts were booed at full time, while Villa celebrated a victory that finally gives their campaign momentum.
The match was played before 60,920 spectators at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
