The Lagos State Police Command has presented cheques worth ₦89,201,523.07 to families and next-of-kin of 157 deceased police officers who served under the command.
The cheques were presented by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The funds represent claims under the police welfare and insurance schemes and are intended to provide financial support to families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Fatai said the financial assistance cannot replace the lives of the deceased officers but demonstrates the commitment of the police in recognising their sacrifices and supporting the families they left behind.

He sympathised with the beneficiaries and urged them to make judicious use of the funds, particularly for the welfare and education of the children and other dependants of the deceased officers.
The commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to facilitating the prompt processing of legitimate claims owed to families of deceased police personnel.
He assured serving police officers that their welfare and their families remain a priority under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
According to the command, the presentation is part of efforts to ensure that families of fallen officers are not abandoned after their loved ones make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
