The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has disclosed that domestic airlines delayed 4,765 flights and cancelled 36 others in August 2026, with Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines recording the highest disruptions.

The regulator made this known in a post on its official X handle, while releasing its summary of domestic airline flight operations for the month.

Key Highlights

  • 4,765 domestic flights delayed by Nigerian airlines in August 2026.
  • 36 flights cancelled during the month, according to the NCAA.
  • 15 airlines operated 7,961 flights, with 59.9% affected by delays.
  • Air Peace recorded the highest number of flights, operating 1,864 and experiencing 1,330 delays.
  • United Nigeria Airlines was also among the airlines with the highest flight disruptions.

According to the NCAA, 15 carriers operated 7,961 flights during the period, with 59.9 per cent of their operations affected by delays.

Air Peace operated the highest number of flights at 1,864, recording 1,330 delays, representing 71.4 percent of its total operations.

The agency had over the weekend sanctioned RwandAir the sum of N15 million over a consumer protection violation involving a passenger’s damaged baggage.

Michael Achimugu, the NCAA spokesperson, announced this in a post on his personal X handle on Friday.

The compensation is in line with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which provides for consumer protection in air travel, compensation and other remedies for passengers affected by baggage-related issues.

According to him, the fine was for failing to resolve the baggage complaint within the stipulated timeframe.

In addition to the fine, the NCAA has directed RwandAir to replace the passenger’s damaged bag and pay $170 as first-need compensation.

The NCAA said the sanction underscores the importance of airlines addressing passenger complaints promptly and complying with consumer protection regulations.
