Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared three days of mourning across the state following the death of Bamanga Tukur, the first civilian governor of the defunct Gongola State.
Tukur, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died on Saturday after a brief illness.
As part of the mourning period, Governor Fintiri directed that all government flags across Adamawa State be flown at half-mast in honour of the late elder statesman.
Fintiri described Tukur’s death as a monumental loss to Adamawa State and Nigeria, praising his contributions to public service, business and national development.
The governor described the deceased as a courageous and patriotic leader whose wealth of experience and commitment to public service earned him an important place in Nigeria’s history.
“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a colossus who made remarkable contributions to the development of Adamawa State and Nigeria.
“His wealth of experience, wisdom and commitment to public service earned him a place of honour in our national history,” Fintiri said.
The governor said he would personally miss Tukur’s wise counsel and extensive experience on issues affecting Adamawa State and the country.

“I will personally miss his wise counsel and the depth of experience he brought to matters concerning our state and nation. His passing has left a significant void that will be difficult to fill,” he added.
Fintiri extended his condolences to Tukur’s immediate family, friends, associates and the people of Adamawa State, urging them to draw strength from his legacy of service and leadership.
He also prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannah Firdaus and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
