AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has proposed that Nigeria explore the medicinal and economic potential of cannabis by exporting the plant to generate revenue for medicines.
Sowore made the proposal while speaking on the BTC Podcast, where he argued that cannabis has several uses beyond recreational smoking.
According to him, cannabis can be consumed in different forms, including being cooked or used in foods such as brownies.
He also dismissed claims that he personally consumes cannabis, saying the plant has industrial applications ranging from clothing to construction.

Sowore claimed cannabis fibre could be used to make building materials and said houses constructed with the material could require less air conditioning.
“Most important, it’s medicine. So my proposal is for us to actually be exporting it and raising money for medicine,” he said.
He also cited Canada as an example, claiming the country generates about $4 billion annually from cannabis following its legalisation.
