The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed that no death was recorded after it oined emergency agencies in a search and rescue operation following the collapse of a 3-storey building on Abidjan Street, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, with the police receiving a distress call at about 7:45 p.m.
The command in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said a police response team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Edward Akaniyene, and the Area Commander (Metro), Georgelyn Ufomadu, immediately responded to the scene.
The police team joined personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Security Service Department, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and other emergency agencies to commence rescue and search operations.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the building had earlier been marked and sealed by the Department of Development Control, Abuja.

The command said no victim has been confirmed as of the time of issuing the statement, but search and rescue operations were still ongoing to determine whether anyone was trapped beneath the rubble.
“The command urges residents to remain calm and security-conscious, avoid the affected area, and cooperate with emergency responders to facilitate the ongoing rescue operations,” Adeh said.
The police added that investigations were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and determine its possible cause.
The command said further details on the extent of damage and the outcome of the rescue operation would be communicated as they become available.
