A three-storey commercial building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, just hours after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) sealed the property and ordered occupants to vacate the premises.
The building collapsed on Monday night, prompting an emergency response from agencies of the FCT Administration.
The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) said it received a distress call about the incident at approximately 7:20 p.m. and immediately deployed emergency responders to the scene.
According to FEMD spokesperson, Nkechi Isa, the FCTA’s Department of Development Control had earlier sealed the building and directed occupants to leave the premises.
“Initial eyewitness accounts indicated that there were no casualties,” FEMD said, adding that responders were still assessing the rubble to determine whether anyone was trapped underneath.

The cause of the collapse had not been established as of Monday night.
The FCT Fire Service was involved in the search and rescue operation, while three ambulances were deployed to the scene as emergency personnel continued their assessment.
FEMD said responders were also awaiting the arrival of an excavator to aid the search through the debris.
The agency urged members of the public to stay away from the affected area to allow emergency responders and security personnel to carry out search and rescue operations without obstruction.
The incident occurred less than two weeks after another building collapse in Abuja.
On August 28, 2026, FEMD reported that a one-storey residential building comprising six blocks of flats collapsed at Kubwa 2/2, near Yellow Page.
Two residents who were trapped in a ground-floor apartment were rescued and taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
Search and rescue operations at the Wuse Zone 4 site were ongoing as of Monday night.
