Big Brother Naija Season 11 housemate Ricky has opened up about a difficult period in his life, revealing that overwhelming stress forced him to quit university while he was in his final year.

The filmmaker and writer made the disclosure during a conversation with fellow housemates, explaining that the pressure he was facing at the time became too much for him to handle.

Ricky said he was already close to completing his degree when he decided to leave the university, choosing to step away rather than continue under the intense pressure.

Reflecting on the period, the reality TV star also made a worrying revelation about his mental state at the time.

Ricky said he could relate to people who insist that they would never take their own lives, recalling that he once found himself in a difficult emotional space.

“When they say, ‘I can’t kill myself,’ that is me. I dropped out of university in my final year because it was stressing me out. I was going to watch movies.”

His admission has sparked conversations about academic pressure and the extent to which the expectations surrounding education, graduation and future success can affect young people’s mental wellbeing.

Ricky’s story also brings attention to the mental and emotional challenges that some BBNaija contestants have experienced, both inside and outside the reality show.

One notable example is Kayvee, whose real name is Ololade Gbolahan, who participated in Season 6, Shine Ya Eye, in 2021.

Kayvee voluntarily withdrew from the show after experiencing health concerns during his time in the house.

His exit generated widespread concern among viewers and highlighted the physical and emotional demands that can come with life inside the BBNaija house.

For Ricky, the striking part of his revelation is that he walked away from university when he was already in his final year.

Rather than simply describing himself as someone who lost interest in school, he linked his decision directly to the pressure he was experiencing.

His experience is a reminder that reaching the final stage of an academic journey does not necessarily mean someone is coping well behind the scenes.
