Lagos State has made the registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) mandatory for all learners seeking admission into public and private schools in the state from the 2026/2027 academic session.

Under the new directive, schools are required to obtain and record the valid LASRRA registration numbers of all learners as part of their admission and enrolment processes. The policy will take effect from Monday, September 14, 2026.

The directive is contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Director of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Adepeju Adeyemi, and approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun.

The state government said the initiative is designed to establish a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners across Lagos State.

Alli-Balogun said the database would provide reliable information for improved planning, monitoring and service delivery in the education sector.

She added that registering learners on the LASRRA database would strengthen record-keeping, identification and verification, while also facilitating learner tracking and supporting evidence-based decision-making by government agencies.

Under the directive, schools must include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in their admission and school records.

They are also expected to sensitise parents and guardians about the requirement and advise those whose children or wards are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process before the commencement of the new academic session.

The government, however, directed schools to ensure that learners’ personal information is handled confidentially and securely in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements.

Director-General of quality assurance, Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, said his office, in collaboration with LASRRA and other relevant government agencies, would develop modalities for generating and assigning unique Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) to learners.

Ogunmuyiwa said sensitisation, registration and verification support would also be provided to schools, parents, guardians and learners to facilitate compliance with the directive.

He said compliance would form part of the monitoring and quality-assurance activities in public and private schools across the state.

Ogunmuyiwa urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure that all learners are registered with LASRRA before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session.

He stressed that the LASRRA registration requirement was mandatory for learners across both public and private schools in Lagos State.
