The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated ₦88.93 billion in revenue and recorded seizures and detentions with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦2.16 billion in the first eight months of 2026.

The Acting Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller UU Adamu, disclosed the figures on Friday during a press briefing on the command’s milestones and achievements at the Customs House, Bompai, Kano.
Adamu said the command generated ₦63.08 billion at its half-year review, while its year-to-date revenue had risen to ₦88,925,099,742.70, representing an increase of about ₦25 billion.
He noted that July recorded the highest monthly revenue collection in the history of the command, with more than ₦14 billion generated during the month.
Kano Customs Records ₦2.16bn Seizures
On enforcement, Adamu said the command recorded seizures and detentions with a total DPV of ₦2,159,325,503 during the period under review.
The seized items included 1,491 cartons of foreign spaghetti valued at ₦38.74 million, 2,928 packs of foreign macaroni worth ₦280.73 million, 35 bags of foreign parboiled rice valued at ₦8.14 million and 3,000 jerry cans of foreign refined vegetable oil worth ₦431.85 million.

The command also intercepted eight suspected diverted transit truck heads valued at ₦300.91 million and seven smuggled vehicles with a DPV of ₦410.54 million.
Adamu added that five 40-foot diverted transit containers valued at ₦645.16 million were seized, while 6,072 pieces of counterfeit agro-packaging materials worth ₦1.82 million were also intercepted.
Customs Intercepts Unregistered Pharmaceutical Products
The acting controller disclosed that Customs intercepted 712,690 tablets of unregistered pharmaceutical products, alongside 17,470 vials and ampoules.
He said the pharmaceutical products had been handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further action.
Endangered Wildlife Seized
The command also intercepted 48 endangered wildlife species, comprising 15 primates, four wild cats, 25 wild birds, two albino crocodiles and a honey badger.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with the wildlife seizure and handed over to the Special Wildlife Office at Customs headquarters for further investigation.
Customs Intercepts Undeclared Foreign Currencies
Adamu further disclosed that the command intercepted undeclared foreign currencies comprising $73,300, £15,975 and 827,800 Saudi Riyals.
Two suspects linked to the currency interception were handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.
Customs Warns Smugglers
The acting controller warned smugglers that the command would continue to intensify enforcement operations across its area of jurisdiction.
He, however, urged legitimate traders to comply with Customs laws and take advantage of the agency’s trade facilitation initiatives.
